Where can I find a history of the unit I served in?

Answer

CARL has some military unit histories (check the CARL Catalog). To search for military unit histories on other web sites try the following:

  • The U.S. Army Heritage & Education Center (USAHEC) has in its collection unit histories from the U.S. battalion/regimental level to national armies of the world, including official histories from several nations in both world wars.  But depending on the war or campaign of interest, the information USAHEC has on a specific unit varies greatly. The USAHEC is not specifically a repository for official unit records, rosters, or morning reports. Officially, these types of records are held by the National Archives and Records Administration.  To ask USAHEC a question, click here.
